I remember backpacking with my father and brothers up Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks of New York. We had an amazing time, just enjoying each other’s company and hiking through that beautiful company. But, man, those packs would get heavy by the end of the day! We’d come to regret packing that extra set of clothes and that book to read late at night. Those things that had seemed so essential when we started out just weighed us down the longer we hiked.
Anyone who has ever done any backpacking knows that the lighter you make your pack the easier the journey. The same is true in our journey through life. In Hebrews 12:1 we are told to “strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set for us>”
Before we can “run with endurance the race” called life, we must first “strip off the weight that slows us down…”. We must set down our burdens of regret, the habits we cling to, “the sin that so easily trips us up.” We must give these things to Jesus and let Him carry them for us.Only we do this, can we truly succeed in this race called life and someday cross the finish line to our heavenly Home.
What burdens are you carrying today? What sin is tripping you up?. Let it go! Set your burdens down at Jesus feet. Then run! Run the race set before you, knowing Jesus will run with you every step of the way.
